School Age Programs we can offer in 2020 and beyond:

  • Masks are required but there will be times these can be safely removed.
  • Please dress for the weather as we will be at outdoors temperatures.
  • Our programs run rain or shine as we have both indoor and outdoor arenas.
  • All program participants must wear closed toe shoes. Additional requirements below if riding is a component of your program.
  •  We do require all individuals attending a LNS program to complete a liability waiver. See our FAQ page for that. (or put link here.)

INVESTIGATE

For grades K-2  we offer a 1 hr tour of our facility for $50 (groups size 12 or less) or $5/student for additional students. 24 Maximum) Must be able to walk on different terrain and follow directions. Includes petting/brushing a pony but no riding.

  • This program can be adapted to any age level group if a community organization or family group wants to see life from a horse’s perspective.

EXPLORE

For grades 3-6 we offer the above tour with the addition of instruction on the psychology of the horse as well as safety around horses. Further instruction will occur on riding basics, riding equipment, care of the horse, cleaning a stall as well as grooming, and tacking. This experience includes a short time in the saddle with a side walker or on a leadline, depending on the age of the student. This is a 1.5 hr to 3 hr time commitment for groups of 8-24 students. The cost of this is $40/student. Larger groups may be eligible for a small discount though the maximum at any one time would be 24 students to maintain safe practices during the pandemic.

For grades 7-12 we offer the same experience as above, at the same price, though there are weight limits of 180 pounds for riders that might affect the number in your group who can participate in the riding portion of the experience. There is no discount for that reality.

We can also include a sketching opportunity for students grades 3-12 to have a physically distanced quiet time in the country.

All riding students must wear closed toe shoes, preferably with a hard sole and defined heel of a minimum of 3/4 inch in height.

We will provide certified equestrian helmets for the riders’ use during our program, though they may bring their own.

Unfortunately, since we are a working farm, not all areas are ADA compliant so consult with us if you have a special needs student and we will see what accommodations can be made for program participation.

We can provide you with some ideas for additional activities to help prepare your students before they come as well as other outside venues near us for picnicking. Just ask.

EXPERIENCE

For those wanting more instructional time in the saddle, we offer horseback riding lessons year-round. Students are aged 6 years old and up. Complete the interest form on our website and you will be sent information with our current lesson rates. We are open Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday.

For those wanting to volunteer at our facility we consider those LNS lesson students ages 12 years old and older, or those students age 14 years old and above. Ask for a volunteer application via our website: www.neshannock.com
